Forest Trends and GreenData Launch Global Hub for Indigenous Peoples & Local Communities

Forest guardians around the world now have a new digital hub to find resources. The Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) Resources Center—available at www.iplcresourcescenter.org—has officially launched, providing a dynamic and multilingual platform designed to equip IPLCs to understand, shape, and access climate and conservation finance.

As the urgency to act on climate change increases, IPLCs, who steward a large portion of the world’s remaining tropical forests, are increasingly recognized as essential actors in global climate solutions. However, these communities still face major barriers in accessing and influencing the architecture of climate finance. The IPLC Resources Center was created to help change that.

The IPLC Resources Center is grounded in years of collaboration between indigenous leaders, community organizations, technical experts, and governments. The initiative was born from the understanding that IPLCs need not only to be included in climate finance systems, but to shape them, in ways that uphold rights, equity, self-determination, and long-term territorial security.

The platform offers tools to promote full, informed, and effective participation in decision-making processes, especially in areas such as:

  • Strengthening of territorial governance and IPLC’s cosmovision
  • Jurisdictional REDD+ programs and the ART TREES standard
  • Carbon markets and results-based payment mechanisms
  • Safeguards, benefit-sharing, and Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC)
  • Legal frameworks and community-led monitoring tools

All resources are developed with a focus on cultural respect, practical utility, and accessibility, with materials available in English, Spanish and Portuguese to reflect the diversity of communities engaged in forest protection worldwide.

At the heart of the site is the Library, which gathers a wide array of guides, infographics, legal briefs, case studies, and training materials, many co-developed with or by IPLC organizations.

New materials are added regularly, with the goal of reflecting ongoing policy developments, innovations from the field, and feedback from IPLC partners.

More than just a website, the IPLC Resources Center aims to serve as a space of connection, visibility, transparency, and action. By making information freely accessible and centered on the realities of IPLCs, the platform seeks to contribute to climate justice, more equitable finance flows, and stronger recognition of customary governance and land rights.

This is a critical moment for climate finance and indigenous rights to converge. The IPLC Resources Center invites Indigenous leaders, local communities, allies, donors, and governments to explore the site, use its tools, and join in building a more inclusive and effective global climate response.
