Program Associate, Watershed Protection – William Penn Foundation

Position Summary

The Foundation’s programmatic investments are led by the team of Senior Program Officers. The Program Associates support the work across the three funding areas (Closing the Achievement Gap, Creative Communities, Watershed Protection), as well as Research and Analytics. The Program Associates work on projects as assigned by Senior Program Officers to meet the needs of the Foundation. This specific position will focus primarily on supporting the work in Watershed Protection but will also be given assignments in other areas on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide support on strategic projects and grantmaking in Watershed Protection and, as needed, across additional areas of the Foundation’s work (e.g., Research & Evaluation, Grants Management, other programmatic areas).
  • Operate a tracking and reporting system of key projects; maintain a dashboard of critical milestones, reporting, and business indicators.
  • Facilitate project planning, coordination, reporting, monitoring and communications, including administrative tasks necessary to ensure successful completion of the work.
  • Quickly understand the substance of the materials. Prepare grant summaries for review by senior staff. Edit documents for clarity and consistency in approach and format. Conduct research as needed, obtain necessary information from program staff, and makes changes independently.
  • Support the Watershed Protection team in strategically communicating its work, working closely with senior members of the Watershed Protection team and the Foundation’s Director of Communications.
  • Manage planning, logistics, and preparations for critical meetings, including meetings with individual organizations and multi-stakeholder convenings. This may include scheduling and calendar management. Prepare agendas; review key documents for completeness, accuracy and consistency; and coordinate event logistics between various parties.
  • Attend key meetings, document key results, distribute meeting summary, coordinate follow-up and next steps.
  • Assist with preparation of updates to the staff.

Education, Training and Experience

  • Undergraduate, graduate degree, and/or equivalent work experience required in relevant environmental sciences or public policy
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in environmental field
  • Experience in setting priorities and prioritizing multiple projects
  • Prefer some experience with evaluative research methods and/or watershed modeling
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Prior foundation experience is not required. Familiarity with foundations or nonprofits desirable.
