The Role
Bloomberg New Energy Finance is the world’s leading provider of industry information and analysis to investors, corporations and governments in clean energy, low carbon technologies and the carbon markets. Our dedicated global network of analysts are continuously monitoring technology market changes, deal flow and financial activity allowing instantaneous transparency into the clean energy and carbon markets and understanding of the fundamental economic drivers of these industries. Through our Carbon Markets division we also provide market-leading analysis and research for the global carbon markets. This includes analysis, price forecasting, consultancy and risk management.

The successful candidate will undertake primary research and analyze the technology, economic and other drivers for any of our clean energy sectors (e.g., wind, solar, smart grid, etc). By building fundamentals based economic and financial models, our teams explore the impact on private and publicly-quoted companies and the outlook for the various sectors. Findings are communicated in a clear and insightful manner, through research notes, reports and presentations. The ability to discuss with and present results to clients is an important part of the role.

Qualifications
-Graduate degree in a scientific, engineering or economics degree
-Post-graduate level degree preferred in a numerate, environmental or science based subject
-Experience as an intern or analyst within an energy, consulting or financial organization with a focus on energy efficiency within cities
-Strong working knowledge of finance, including public markets, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and specifically project finance
-Able to assimilate and assess new and highly technical information
-Exceptional quantitative skills, comfort with financial databases, corporate and market statistics among other aspects of financial analysis and consulting
-Ability to cut through the noise of large quantities of data, and to extract and analyze key patterns
-Exceptional communication skills and professionalism, as required to deliver services to Fortune 500 organizations
-Must act as a thought-leader and self-starter, have a high work-rate, ability to work on parallel tasks and rigorous attention to detail

The Role

We are seeking talented, highly-motivated interns for our clean energy and environmental trading teams. Specifically, we are seeking for a background in one of, or a combination of, the following: natural sciences, engineering, economics, or finance.

Interns will be charged with research assignments geared toward enhancing our modeling capabilities, reports and information systems. This can involve any of the following: data collection, analysis, modelling, report writing and surveying. The working environment is highly dynamic, fast-paced, and intellectually stimulating. Interns will be working directly with our sector analysts (eg, wind, solar, energy efficiency, carbon trading, RECs, biofuels) to produce output that is relevant to our client base.

Qualifications

-Background in business, finance, economics, or science
-Awareness of the energy sector, climate change policy and market principles
-Attention to detail, and ability to assimilate and assess new and highly technical information
-Exceptional quantitative skills, with strong ability to cut through the noise of large quantities of data, extract and analyse key patterns.
-Comfortable using Excel and other MS Office applications
-Written and spoken English must be excellent. Some evidence of writing ability is required. Interns will be expected to derive information from public sources and in-person / telephone interviews as well as modelling.
-Must act as a self-starter, have a high work-rate, ability to work on parallel tasks and rigorous attention to detail.
