Climate Action Network (CAN) is a worldwide network of over 900 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in more than 100 countries, working to promote government and individual action to limit human-induced climate change to ecologically sustainable levels.
CAN members work to achieve this goal through information exchange and the coordinated development of NGO strategy on international, regional, and national climate issues. CAN has regional network hubs that coordinate these efforts around the world.
CAN policy department coordinates CAN members at the global negotiations like UNFCCC. This entails coordination of CAN policy positions and submissions , monitoring, coordinating, delivering statements and scheduling daily meetings, all while tracking the evolving state of play at the negotiations.
CAN is seeking a Junior Policy Officer to assist in the policy activities for the Network. The Policy Officer will work within the policy department of Climate Action Network and will report to International Policy Coordinator
The primary responsibilities for this position are –
Coordinate various thematic CAN policy working groups
Coordinate member activities during and between various negotiating sessions
Coordinate policy submissions and other relevant publications
Assist in preparation of UNFCCC sessions
Liaison with relevant stakeholders like UNFCCC secretariat staff and member of government delegation
Manage the sections relevant to the policy department within the CAN website
Overall assist the International Policy Coordinator to deliver on various objectives of the department
Desired Skills and Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience in development and/or environment sector
Knowledge of UNFCCC process
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to travel extensively
Ability to work odd hours due to the international nature of the job
Manage diverse workload and physically & mentally challenging situations
Fluency in English is a must – previous experience in copy editing is desirable, additional UN language skills a plus;
Proficiency with MS Office suite and Google documents platform;
Proficiency with web tools, eg html programming
Self-driven, organized and ability to work from home
Preferably from a developing country
Knowledge of working with CAN and working with diverse cultural backgrounds is an added advantage
