Forest Carbon Auditor, Rainforest Alliance

REQUEST FOR CONSULTANT

Consultant Need: Forest Carbon Auditor
Reports to: Carbon Technical Specialist – Rainforest Alliance SmartWood Program
Duration: 3 months with a retainer of 2 days per week averaged over the month guaranteed, with some weeks requiring up to 7 days.

Overview:
The Rainforest Alliance is a world leader in promoting sustainable forestry and sustainable agriculture. We have certified sustainable practices that protect forest cover and biodiversity on more than 130 million acres worldwide. Because of our efforts to promote sustainable production, we estimate that over one billion tons of carbon is maintained in forest stocks on certified forest properties.

The Rainforest Alliance now provides credible third-party auditing to assess whether forest projects meet voluntary carbon standards for sequestering carbon dioxide, reducing greenhouse emissions and providing community and biodiversity co-benefits. We are currently accepted as a validation/verification body by the following organizations:

  • Climate Action Reserve
  • Voluntary Carbon Standard Association
  • Climate, Community & Biodiversity Alliance
  • Plan Vivo
  • CarbonFix Standard
  • American Carbon Registry

As the voluntary carbon market grows and with potential for compliance forest carbon systems, we expect the demand for assessment of forest carbon projects and methodologies to continue to rise. To meet anticipated demands, the SmartWood Program seeks a consultant to conduct carbon validation and verification audits of forest carbon projects within the voluntary carbon market.
SmartWood (SW), a program of the Rainforest Alliance, is the world’s leading Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forest management certifier, setting the international gold standard for credibility in auditing environmentally and socially responsible forestry.

SmartWood offers a diverse set of certification and verification services, including FSC certification, legality verification, SmartLogging and carbon validation and verification. Today more than 3000 operations spanning 73 countries have been certified by the Rainforest Alliance’s SmartWood program.
