Communications Intern – The Gold Standard Foundation

Summary:
 
For ten years, The Gold Standard has pioneered the way climate change is addressed. Established in  2003 by WWF, The Gold Standard is the only certification standard trusted and endorsed by more than 80 NGOs   worldwide. Its  ‘results based finance’ approach – ­‐  in which individuals, corporations and  governments buy  credits  against verified and  certified  emission  reductions and sustainable development  outcomes – ­‐  is channeling more than half a billion Euros int  900+ low carbon development  projects that would  otherwise not have gone ahead. The Intern will  be based in the Geneva  head  office and  will  assist with communications, advocacy and general office work.      
 
The work you do could have significant real- ­world impacts  because you will be helping to further build the profile, reputation and   brand of The Gold Standard Foundation – ­‐  highlighting  to governments,  the  private sector and donors The Gold Standard approach   to the deployment of carbon finance.  
       
Responsiblities:    
  • Assist the marketing and communications manager with  the online profile building of, and advocacy for, The Gold Standard.
  • Produce feature stories and other media materials for The Gold Standard website, newsletter and other publications.  
  • The annual audit of  our Portfolio Pledge programme,  where companies commit to a certain percentage of Gold Standard   projects or credits as  a  part of  their climate portfolios.      
  • Update and  manage the contact database  to ensure that it actively and  effectively targets key  stakeholder groups.      
  • Support the marketing and communications manager  and business development manager with  our NGO engagement work.
  • Assist  in other miscellaneous tasks that arise in the course of our weekly work.  
 
Requirements:
  • A bright, motivated graduate student majoring in communications or marketing.      
  • Available in Geneva for the  6- ­month  duration  of the internship, ideally full time,  from August/September 2013 – December 2013/January   2014 (negotiable).      
  • A citizen or legal resident of Switzerland with eligibility to work.  
  • Able to demonstrate a  successful track record of achievement at previous internships or jobs.  
  • Interested in  climate change, climate finance and development.      
  • A strong writer and  web-savvy researcher able to give and take constructive feedback and who is not afraid to ask questions.
  • An expert in Microsoft Office,  able to work well  both independently and within a  variety of  teams, contexts and cultures.  
  • The candidate must be flexible, confident, motivated and meticulous with excellent follow- ­through and have a good sense of humour.  
  • Mother tongue or equivalent English language skills, other languages an advantage.
