Communications Coordinator

Summary:

In conjunction with the United Nations University – Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) Traditional Knowledge Initiative (TKI) and the Indigenous Peoples Biocultural Climate Change Assessment (IPCCA) Secretariat, the Communications Coordinator will be tasked with facilitating a diverse range of internal and external communications activities for the IPCCA. These communication activities will promote the continued efforts and findings of IPCCA Local Assessments, create recognition of IPCCA’s work within national and international arenas, and will assist in the dissemination of broader findings and concerns made by IPCCA regarding climate change and indigenous peoples. These activities will be coupled with research and outputs (in the form of technical and special reports) on best practices for international indigenous communication.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Maintain connection between the Local Assessments, Steering Committee, Donors and the International Secretariat through the production of regular monthly newsletters and updates;
  • Provide regular content and updates on the IPCCA website and social media channels;
  • Develop and promote communication tools and networks for use by all members, especially IPCCA Local Assessments;
  • Assist in the development of webinars to promote communications capacity building throughout Local Assessment communities;
  • Produce and disseminate promotional material for advocacy, outreach, and policy initiatives;
  • Provide communication support for establishing and nurturing lessons learned and best practices across the IPCCA;
  • Coordinate efforts with the Knowledge Management officer to communicate the outputs of the Indigenous Knowledge Base Portal;
  • Develop technical communications outputs (e.g. technical and special reports);
  • Research best practices for international indigenous communication
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism and/or related field
  • 2+ years related experience
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Graphic design experience a plus
