Business Account Manager

This position has lead responsibility for stewarding, renewing and developing’s highly successful small business program, under which over 600 companies have taken measurable steps to reduce their adverse impact on the climate. Typically our partners agree to offset the carbon footprint (reduce emissions) of their business operations, travel, events, shipping or products. Engaging partners in carbon tracking software is also part of our growing CarbonFree program. Many partners work with us to educate their employees and customers about the value of taking individual actions that can help reduce climate change. Our motto is “Reduce what you can, offset what you can’t.”

Responsibilities include account management, determining carbon emissions (via easy-to-use calculators), joint promotions, and partner expansion into new program areas. There is a heavy communications component to this role, requiring a people person who likes being on the phone each day with many partners, can explain carbon reduction programs in plain English, and is comfortable writing blogs, releases, proposals and promotional materials. Accuracy and persistence is required for data management and invoicing.

Experience with account development or sales preferred, along with a strong commitment to the environment. We value highly polished business-oriented candidates who have had experience in a fast-paced work environment where efficiency and initiative are essential. You must creatively develop assigned leads by making pitches and closing agreements.

  • 2-5 years relevant experience
  • Proven track record in customer stewardship and expansion
  • Sales or fundraising experience preferred
  • Excellent writing skills in a wide variety of business formats
  • Must be a team player able to react to the needs of an ever-changing organization
  • Understanding of the green business sector and climate change preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills, including MS office and Web-based software
  • A passion for the environment and solving our climate crisis
