INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
The Climate Registry (The Registry) is the leading greenhouse gas (GHG) registry in North America. Over 60 jurisdictions including U.S. states, Canadian provinces & territories, Mexican states, and Native Sovereign Nations have joined together as governing Directors to encourage and track actions to reduce GHG emissions. The Registry helps organizations throughout North America to measure, verify and publicly report their GHG emissions. It also provides support for its Director states, provinces and Native Sovereign Nations in implementing regulatory GHG reporting and reduction programs. The Registry has developed standardized reporting and verification protocols for inventorying GHG emissions. Registry Members include businesses, non-profit organizations, municipalities, state agencies, and other entities. More information about The Registry is available at

The Registry offers a hands-on, fast-paced work environment, and tremendous potential for growth and networking. This position provides the opportunity to join a team playing a leading role in developing climate change policy in North America.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Registry internship program emphasizes training and gathering work experience. We expect that our interns will make a substantive contribution to program development. Our interns’ responsibilities vary according to the aptitude and interests of each individual. Internships we are currently hiring for are listed below.
Internships are unpaid. School credit may be available. The fall internship program runs September through December, and interns make a commitment of 10-20 hours per week. We accept two interns per semester on a rolling basis. Interns are expected to work primarily at The Registry’s offices in Downtown Los Angeles. The Climate Registry provides a monthly subsidy of up to $130 to offset commuting costs.
CURRENTLY AVAILABLE INTERNSHIPS: DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Climate Policy Event Coordinator
- Develop and manage a webinar event series that addresses 1) developing climate policy at the federal, state and local levels, 2) emerging technologies and best practices, 3) climate change mitigation strategies, and 4) environmental management in the supply chain
- Provide logistical support for The Climate Registry’s delegation to the 17th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Durban, South Africa
- Provide event support on an as-needed basis
Carbon Management Researcher
- Research and write case studies on 1) organizations that measure and report their carbon footprint to The Climate Registry or other programs, and 2) organizations that have progressive GHG management systems and mitigation measures
- Research best practices for GHG emissions reductions, to include costs, direct benefits, co-benefits, and lessons learned for The Climate Registry’s Best Practices Management Database
Government Resources for Climate Change Intern
- Identify and develop resources that would help governments at the federal, state or local level to measure, report and mitigate their GHG emissions
Business Development Intern
- Conduct a viability assessment for reporting and verifying GHG emissions in emerging economies (e.g., Mexico, India, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia)
Information Services Intern
- Support the development and implementation of GHG Sync, a bulk data upload utility that supports corporate GHG reporting
- Identify and develop data analytics for the measurement and management of GHG emissions
- Assist in website maintenance
- Edit video tutorials for The Climate Registry website
Verification Services Intern
- Develop case studies that highlight the value and benefits of third-party verification
- Update The Registry’s various online verification resources
- Assist with processing verification forms
- Assist with emissions report publication process
Development Intern
- Support grant management
- Research new funding opportunities
- Draft grant proposals
Administrative Intern
- Assist with office operations, including managing the contacts database (5-10 hours weekly)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diligent and hardworking with a positive attitude
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Strong research and writing skills
- The ability to understand technical information, and to present it in digestible form
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Experience or interest in climate change and energy related issues
- Current course of study in public policy, environmental science, computer engineering, communications, business or a related field preferred
