The Office of the Chief Economist is seeking a motivated and highly-qualified candidate for an exciting full-time permanent position located in the Office of Environmental Markets (OEM) located in Washington, DC.

The OEM mission is to provide the central coordination for the Department in developing technical guidelines and science based methods for quantifying the environmental benefits from conservation and land management activities; conduct analysis and perform long range planning to develop response strategies relating to environmental markets; provide information on scientific developments and policy issues relating to the effects of environmental markets on agriculture and forestry, including broader issues that affect the impact of environmental markets on the farms and forests of the United States; and to provide the Secretary with recommendations on alternative courses of action.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

At the GS-13 level:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.  Qualifying experience for GS-13 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the competencies to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience applying natural resource science research methodologies to water quality performance in the agricultural and forestry sectors.

To be minimally qualified for this position you must meet one of the
Basic Qualifications as listed below.

A. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry,  or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience — Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

NOTE: If you meet the basic requirements for A or B, you are REQUIRED to submit a copy of your college transcript OR a list of college courses with credit hours, dates completed, and grades received to verify education.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.)  Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
