Carbon Finance Project Manager, KfW Bankengruppe

The KfW Carbon Fund provides European companies and governments access to emissions trading certificates. Through its innovative activities, KfW at the same time supports projects to mitigate climate change around the world, and helps develop the market for emission certificates. If you are excited by the prospect of letting your financing expertise and ideas provide a key contribution towards advancing this dynamic area of business, then please read on.

We are a small team of experts responsible for the acquisition, syndication and management of projects for the KfW Carbon Fund. You are a financing expert who will be responsible for developing and implementing financing strategies for the purchase of carbon credits. Improved interest rates, collateralisation, portfolio activities, trade finance … you know from experience what needs to be developed and implemented. You also understand how to apply the various methods for monetising carbon cash flows, and how to design bank financing arrangements for climate change mitigation projects together with our financing partners. We will be relying not only on your technical expertise but also on your qualities as a persuasive relationship manager, who would further intensify our cooperation with European funding institutions, governments, and international promotional and commercial banks. A further core aspect of your duties will be the coordination and liaison with other departments of KfW in the development and implementation of new carbon finance products. This will include visualising the processes involved in the production system. Initially, the further development and establishment of advanced payments on emission certificates will be at the very top of your agenda. Your objective throughout will be to support the project managers responsible for purchasing CO2 certificates by providing them with the right tailor-made tools, innovative products and active advice. With your expertise you will also represent KfW at business events, position it as a highly competent partner on the carbon finance market, and act as a key contact for financing issues on the emission certificates market – also for external dialogue partners.

Your profile: Your basic educational background is a degree in business administration or economics, or a comparable qualification. You have already gained several years’ professional experience in international – preferably commercial – financing business. You are well versed in structuring and executing complex transactions both at home and abroad, and possess experience in developing new markets and products. If you have already worked on the emissions trading markets and are familiar with the Kyoto mechanisms (CDM and JI) this would be a plus, as would experience in working with developing countries. What else counts? Personality! Your confident manner and excellent communication skills – obviously also in English – convince those you deal with both within and outside of KfW. Excellent German language proficiency is also required. If you combine all of this with a way of working geared to achieving targets and solving problems, and a generous team spirit, we would be pleased to receive your application.
